Real Hoomans, Real Stories

Our skin stories can be emotional. There’s no two ways about it. We at Skingredients understand that many of us hoomans suffer from skin conditions like acne which can affect our self-esteem, confidence and the way we feel in our own skin. It’s true that spots don’t define us, but reaching skin-tentment isn’t a destination that can be reached in a day – it's a tumultuous journey, an emotional rollercoaster and for some, an ongoing challenge.

Acne is much more common than you think. A huge 1 out of 10 hoomans in the world suffers from the skin condition, according to a review published in the International Journal of Dermatology in 2020. 95% of people between the ages of 11 to 30 are affected by acne to some extent and it can still be prevalent during your 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond.

This Acne Awareness Month, we launched our Real Hoomans, Real Stories campaign to draw attention to the stigmas and misconceptions that real hoomans with real skin are subject to every day. Caoimhe, Kate, Emily and Caryn, the wonderful hoomans that took part in our campaign, have learned to embrace their skin just the way it is, but they acknowledge the challenges they’ve faced on the road to skin confidence.

“I have grown so much as a person because I’ve had spots. I am grateful that I understand who I am today” - Caoimhe.
We asked Caoimhe, Kate, Emily and Caryn to take part in a foundation-free photoshoot to shine a light on how happy, healthy, and beautiful they are with their skin bare – spots, congestion, scarring and all. We’re so proud of these four amazing hoomans for feeling empowered in themselves and sharing their skin stories in the hope it will inspire others to rethink their relationship with their skin.

“This is who I am, this is my skin. It does amazing things for me” - Kate.

This campaign is for the hoomans that have examined their skin in the mirror for spots when they first wake up, feel like they can’t leave the house without makeup or popped every pimple in sight out of sheer desperation – you're not alone! We hope you enjoy watching Caoimhe, Kate, Emily and Caryn’s skin stories...

If you think you suffer from acne, please book an appointment with your GP to receive medical guidance. Skingredients skincare can be used alongside medical treatments prescribed by your doctor. We believe that the skin is an organ and should be treated at such!

We at Skingredients would like to thank Caoimhe, Kate, Emily and Caryn for bravely baring all, as well as our dream team Niko, Trisha, Rachel, Olivia, Corina, Lisa, Breda and Aisling for making it happen and Museum of Literature Ireland for having us. We couldn’t have done it without you!
